The Medicine House, Blackden, Goostrey, Cheshire Saturday 10 April 2010, 10.30 - 4.00 The idea of venturing to a sacred place to pay devotions and gain protection is ancient. Amongst artefacts found at Blackden is a 14th Century pilgrim's ampulla for carrying holy water back from the shrine at Walsingham. Using illustrations from the period and artefacts we will examine the concept of the medieval pilgrimage, explorig reasons why people went, what they found at the shrines and what artefacts they brought back. St John’s Church, Chester (next to the Amphitheatre) Saturday 26 June 2010, 11-4.30 In Medieval times, all musicians and entertainers wishing to perform in Cheshire had to attend St John’s Church each Midsummer to get their licences. This lively event is being recreate with performances of medieval music, dancing, mummers’ plays and storytelling. Come along and meet a collection of medieval characters and even have the chance to join in the show. As an added bonus, St John’s Summer Fair is also being held on that day. Free Admission |

Explore stories of the musicians and hear their music performed by Richard York on a wide range of instruments, including harp, bagpipes, shawm and hurdy gurdy.
